How the Villarejo-Francisco Martínez cell worked in the dirty war against rivals, by Ernesto Ekaizer

There is an audio that is conspicuous by its absence in the procedural performances of the pieces of the Tandem-Villarejo case. But it is one of the many that was leaked behind the back of that cause. Various media echoed it in mid-2022. It is a recording made by the curator Jose Manuel Villarejo during one of his regular meetings with the Secretary of State for Security, Francisco Martinez Vazquez.

By being presented in a fragmentary manner, turning some of the topics addressed in the audio of August 22, 2014 into separate news items, the focus becomes individual, isolated information, when from the point of view of knowledge of the systematic work method that Villarejo and Martínez used, what is relevant is precisely to broaden that focus.

That audio, from August 22, 2014, examines a series of issues that Villarejo has written down on his agenda and about which Martínez takes due note.

Villarejo had been working for two years, since 2012, with Martínez, who until January 2013 had been chief of staff of the Minister of the Interior, Jorge Fernandez Diaz, before being Secretary of State for Security. In practice, this lawyer, lawyer of the Cortes, and former director of international relations of the general secretariat of the PP, was Fernández Díaz’s ‘number two’, either as chief of staff or as secretary of state. In the interview that Villarejo gave to EL PERIÓDICO DE CATALUNYA, on April 3, 2023, he explained that he had “noticed any difference in Paco Martínez’s activity when he was chief of staff or became Secretary of State & rdquor ; .

The close relationship between the two was forged, as they recall at their meeting on August 22, 2014, in a Villarejo mission that Martínez supported without any hesitation: the production of a draft attributed to the authorship of the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit (UDEF) in November 2012 on (non-existent) accounts of Jordi Pujol i Soleyformer president of the Generalitat, and of the president Arthur More. Said draft was leaked to the newspaper El Mundo, the one called by Villarejo the Berta cannon with which he used to shoot, a week before the regional elections in Catalonia of November 25, 2012, in which the pro-independence parties suffered a considerable decrease in citizen support.

This draft was the subject of an investigation by the prosecutor Martin Rodriguez SolCatalonia’s top prosecutor, and police chiefs, including the head of the UDEF, Manuel VazquezHe denied its existence. Villarejo and Martínez recall in the audio how bad those days were in one of the houses that the then commissioner has in the Madrid town of Boadilla del Monte.

“Paco, you were responsible for changing Spain. That [el borrador] It was the beginning of the end for them [Pujol y Mas]”.

Martínez replies: “One day you have to invite me to your house, but to drink whiskey.”

“We had a bad time!” recalls Villarejo.

“Don’t tell me!” Martínez agrees.

“At that time we talked, but we didn’t have the confidence we have now,” recalls Villarejo.

To get out of that quagmire, remember in this audio Villarejo, they went to the United Police Union (SUP), whose manager, Jose Manuel Sanchez Fornetcalled a press conference, in which he stated that they had a copy of the document that, in effect, they assured was from the UDEF.

‘Operation Kitchen’

The topics that Villarejo brought to the meeting on August 22 were varied: the tsunami caused, less than a month ago, on July 25, 2014, by the confession of Pujol i Soley about the 3.4 million euros in the accounts banks of the Andorran Private Banking (BPA), whose screenshot of the accounts had been obtained by the head of the Internal Affairs Unit (UAI), Marcelino Martin Blas. And, above all, the threat made by the confidant Maria Victoria Alvarez, Vickyremove from Jordi Pujol Ferrusolato the president of the PP of Catalonia, Alice Sanchez Camacho, to tell everything if they did not pay him the 50,000 euros allegedly agreed. Apart from the monthly money that the Ministry of the Interior had been paying him for two years.

But, in addition to ‘Operation Catalonia’, there was ‘Operation Kitchen’, the recovery of compromising documents for Mariano Rajoy and the PP, in the power of the ex-treasurer of the party, Luis Barcenas. In those days, Villarejo recounts in the audio, the chief commissioner of the Central Operational Support Unit (UCAO) of the Police, Enrique Garcia Castañoalias El Gordo, was about to clandestinely violate a restoration workshop Rosalia Iglesias, wife of Bárcenas, in the Madrid street of Díaz Porlier. Also at this point there is a confrontation between the operational deputy director, Eugenio Pino, who suspects that Villarejo wants to keep a copy of the findings. “Whoever has them will send a lot,” Pino tells El Gordo.

Precisely, after commenting on the illegal search -whether it has occurred or not- Villarejo lists the following matter.

“The subject of Pedro Sánchez & rdquor ;, he says.

Pedro Sánchez had been proclaimed general secretary of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) on Saturday, July 26, 2014, after winning in an open primary with a dog’s face and taking the baton of Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba.

And although attention was focused in those days on the internal opposition within his own party -everything would go until his dismissal on October 2, 2016-, the Popular Party, through the Ministry of the Interior of the Government of Mariano Rajoy was already hatching a dirty war plan to end his political career. It was about using information about the sauna business in Madrid that had just stopped managing Pedro Sánchez’s land, Sabiniano Gomez Serrano.

“It’s important,” says Villarejo.

“No one knows that, right? & rdquor ;, inquires Martínez.

“Nobody knows about it. I believe, and that must be handled by Paco with a lot.

“Neither Gordo nor Pino & rdquor ;, interrupts Martínez.

“No, no, no, nobody, nobody, nobody. Any of those. The only one who knows is [el comisario] Carlos Salamanca. The issue of those saunas is known to the General Information Commissioner [CGI], for an issue that there were politicians. They are pilinguis saunas [prostitutas]. They are three brothers. The first of the brothers had two saunas. He wears. Saunas for uncles and aunts. The other brother of aunts, and the third is the father-in-law of Pedro Sánchez. The father-in-law and the other brother are responsible, and that is the story.”

“What’s his name?” asks Martínez.

“I tell you the name, I know it, I don’t remember now.”

According to Villarejo, the General Commissioner for Information, Enrique Baronand the Fatty, Enrique Garcia Castaño they had eaten with Sabiniano Gómez after his son-in-law was appointed secretary general of the PSOE, Pedro Sanchez.

“That is deadly when necessary. That is where you have to assess if at a given moment I have to choose [para seguir el asunto] between el Gordo and Carlitos [Salamanca]; I would choose Carlitos & rdquor ;.

“That is deadly & rdquor ;, affirms Martínez.

“That kills him. [Pedro Sánchez]”, reaffirms Villarejo.

“This would kill anyone who goes with the flag of the feminist roll, I don’t know what. ¿Feminist and you have it full of Polish girls sucking dicks in the sauna & rdquor ;, he insists, more political than his interlocutor, Martínez.

“Deadly & rdquor ;, Villarejo agrees. “Imagine Paco when I found out, I got the tail of the host! & rdquor;.

This story of the father-in-law’s saunas was leaked to various media for several years with the aim of eroding Pedro Sánchez, before the motion of censure on June 1, 2018 that led him to La Moncloa and later.

Thus, then, the Villarejo-Martínez tandem worked. It was hatched from how to keep confidantes (the case of Sergio Ríos, the one who spied on Bárcenas, who was managed to get into the National Police) to short-circuit the career of Pedro Sánchez.
