If the Internet provider increases the prices, there is often a special right of termination. If you actually want to change providers, it is worth considering a few factors.
If you receive a price increase for your internet connection by letter or email, you should take a look at the general terms and conditions. This can exclude the special right of termination for Internet contracts in the event of increases of up to a maximum of five percent. Otherwise, the focus should be on the period within which you can make use of your extraordinary right of termination due to the price increase.
This has to be taken into account when it comes to the special right of termination for Internet contracts
But whether you really want to cancel or not should be considered carefully, reported the telecommunications portal “Teltarif.de”. The following points must be considered and observed:
- Is there another provider that offers a similarly fast connection at a lower price at the place of residence?
- Is there a landline number for the contract that you want to keep in the event of termination?
- If so: In the event of an extraordinary termination, the customer must take action himself and answer the question “Should the number be ported” with “Yes” in the termination process. The new provider must also actively point out that the old connection has already been terminated and the number is to be ported.
- Has the contract been longer than 24 months? In this case, extraordinary termination is not necessary at all, because the regular notice period has only been one month since the end of 2021 anyway. In this case, it is easier to instruct the new provider to terminate and port the service.
- The old landline number does not have to be ported because it is not important to you or because it is no longer needed? In that case, important contacts should still be informed in good time that the number is no longer available and, if necessary, a new or alternative number.
