How the outer wall of the sports hall in Ruinen is transformed into an exhibition

The “boring” outer wall of sports hall De Marse is completely transformed by artist Vera Vos and her helpers. Together with young people from Ruinen they paint large white wooden plates. When they are completely painted with animals, plants and other paintings, the plates are hung.

About ten young people try in vain to look for the shadow a bit while painting. It is about thirty degrees and people are working hard to brighten up the outside wall of the sports hall in Ruinen. “It’s a fun summer activity, but also a bit of talent development,” explains Vos. The artist was approached by Young de Wolden, the youth work in the municipality of De Wolden.

Despite the heat, the young people are enthusiastic. “It’s very nice to be busy with everyone. Vera has put a sketch on the plates and we can color it”, says Mila, one of the participants. She is standing on the stairs painting a sun with her friend Benthe. “The weather is nice to participate in this, so why not?”

Anouk is also busy painting. “I like to be creative and also enjoy doing it with a large group,” she explains. The heat makes it all a little slower than expected. “We expected to be ready, but we still have to work today,” says Vos. “Next week the plates will be hung, just a layer of lacquer over it and ready.”
