How Rockstar’s Latest Games Can Affect GTA 6

GTA 6 is still light years away but, looking at Rockstar Games’ past, it is possible to trace an identikit of what it will be like.

Before GTA IV, there was Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis, the first game to use the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE). Ping pong might seem like an odd choice for a studio group known for cowboy epics and open world crime sagas, but there’s a method to Rockstar’s madness. Think about what table tennis is – a physics game. The ball must take into account the angle of the racquet, the speed of the shot, and bounce when it hits the table. In multiplayer, both players must see the same thing.

Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis laid the foundation for GTA IV’s Euphoria-managed physics, which allowed NPCs to cling to car doors, plunge out of the trajectory of racing cars, and fall when pushed. It’s a procedural animation technique that calculates forces and realistically applies them to characters, and that’s what makes it so fun to interface with NPCs in modern GTAs.

What will GTA 6 look like? –

After the launch of GTA IV came the release of Midnight Club Los Angeles, the fourth iteration in the racing series. In addition to allowing Rockstar to practice creating an open world LA Before launching GTA V, he experimented with adjusting the traffic density according to the time of day, had a dynamic weather system, and gave Rockstar the chance to improve his driving model for the main event.

Get back to playing GTA IV now, and you’ll find that vehicles are much stiffer, more believable than they are in GTA V, a game that strikes the perfect balance between realism and arcade. Shortly after the game’s release, GTA IV received a couple of expansions with the Episodes from Liberty City, introducing two new characters and showing the events of GTA IV from a different perspective. This was one of the milestones that anticipated the character change mechanics in GTA V.

Then came Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, which improved the gunplay. The former introduced wild animals, while the latter added bullet-time slow motion, which was also used for Michael’s special ability in GTA V. Everything Rockstar does offers insight into what he’s up to. get. Even LA Noire, which seemed like a failed project, with its innovative (at the time, albeit soon outdated) facial animation technology. With that in mind, it’s interesting to take a look at the studio’s newest games and see what they might mean for GTA 6. Obviously, there have been fewer games between GTA V and GTA 6 than there have been between the fourth and the last. fifth, but there’s so much the studio has learned from Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA Online, and the relaunch of GTA V for new consoles.

More role-playing –

Personalization has always been a big part of Rockstar games, as demonstrated by, for one thing, the ability to grow a mountain beard to poor Arthur Morgan. While these types of options are likely to be more varied in GTA 6, the biggest influence in that branch should come from the system of “Roles” in Red Dead Online.

With roles, players can bring bounties, hunt animals, or search for lost treasure. The system has not yet reached its full potential, but Rockstar is likely to take the lessons learned here and apply them to the online portion of GTA 6. Dedicated role-playing servers are an important part of GTA Online on PC, where the people pretend to be cops, criminals, taxi drivers, doctors, and all kinds of things. Why shouldn’t there be some kind of official implementation in GTA 6 Online then?

More social awareness –

Like a certain Irish MMA fighter, GTA games have traditionally been punching in all directions – no one is safe. But GTA 6 gives Rockstar the opportunity to focus on the company’s villains and the systems that hold back its characters. With the launch of the next-gen version of GTA V, Rockstar has offered a rare look at their mindset. GTA V came out nine years agoat a time when so many people were unaware of the difficulties trans people face every day.

gta 6

GTA V originally had content that mocked the trans community with over-the-top “jokes”, but these have been removed from the new release. This is proof that Rockstar has become more aware of the social problems in the world today. In Red Dead Redemption, some of the best characters are strong women and the whole gang is multicultural. Rockstar has matured alongside its audience over the past decade, to the point where it wouldn’t be surprising if GTA 6 offered a female protagonist for the first time in the series. Even if it didn’t, you can expect fewer jokes about marginalized groups or people.

Goodbye, change of character –

There should be more than one protagonist in GTA 6, but it shouldn’t work the same way as in GTA V, where you could freely switch between characters most of the time. On the contrary, it should be a mix of that approach and that of Red Dead Redemption 2 – you will have multiple characters, but you will switch between them at certain points in the story.

The problem with free character switching is that it takes something away from the logic of “possession”, which is an important part of GTA. It becomes difficult to keep track of which buildings and assets belong to Franklin or Michael or Trevor, even worse when it comes to finances and possessions on the stock market. Obviously, you will miss things like passing by Trevor only to find him almost naked on a beach, surrounded by dead bikers. The biggest hope is that Rockstar will turn it into an anthology – more stories, albeit shorter. Seeing these worlds from different perspectives, like in Episodes from Liberty City, is adorable and this method would prepare players to play different roles online.

A more realistic arsenal –

Sure, it’s nice to be able to carry an RPG, an assault rifle, a sniper rifle, a shotgun, a submachine gun, a pistol, a baseball bat and ten grenades with you, but that’s not very realistic, is it? Realism is something Rockstar has been aiming for for a while – you can see it in every interaction in Red Dead Redemption 2, from stroking the horse to stealing canned beans from a farm. You can also see it in the arsenal. Arthur Morgan can only carry what physically enters his person – the guns are crammed into their holsters and the rifles are slung over his back. Anything he can’t carry stays on his horse, which acts as a portable backpack.

Swap the horse for a car and this system might work fine in GTA6 as well. Not only would it be cool, but you’d also feel smarter for bringing the right tools for each job, opening the trunk and examining an ever-growing armory to pick up the right irons before a mission. Rockstar might even do that the police react if the protagonist were to brandish a weapon fires in public, giving the player Hitman-style animations to quickly hide it behind his back.

More fauna –

If you think Rockstar throws away everything it has learned about natural beauty in Red Dead Redemption 2, you are wrong. One of the big rumors surrounding GTA 6 is that its code name is “Americas” internally.

This could suggest that the game could be set in South America and North America, which means there should be some substantial outdoor scenarios between the two. Vice City, which is based in Miami, will likely be the main location of the game, of course, so there is also the option to cut the land mass and allow players to travel to Liberty City through Georgiawhich is home to places like the Blood Mountain Wilderness.

More points of interest –

Another thing Red Dead Redemption 2 really hit on was making a seemingly empty space interesting. It wasn’t just the simulated ecosystem and random eventsit was how Rockstar filled each location with detail.

Every cabin in Red Dead Redemption 2 hides some kind of secret or dark past. Although the world is ridiculously huge, there is always something to discoverand none of these were repeated twice.
