How my.box wants to bring the blockchain into the browser with Ethereum addresses

• Ethereum addresses in the web browser
• Tokenized DNS domains
• my.box launch planned for September 2023

As Ethereum Name Service (ENS) founder Nick Johnson announced via Twitter in early June, the crypto service provider “my.box” now wants to bring Ethereum addresses into the web browser.

According to Jonson, .box will be the first blockchain-native DNS routable TLD and will be enabled via Ethereum Name Service. NFT owners then own both the Domain Name System and Ethereum Name Service names. All registrations and transactions are made on the blockchain.

Ethereum Name Service: Simple custom names instead of long crypto addresses

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a crypto service that allows the long crypto addresses to be translated into simpler, more user-friendly Ethereum addresses with the .eth extension and offers decentralized names for wallets and websites. The technology can be compared to IP addresses that are not suitable for everyday use and that are transferred to simple, individual domain names on Web2 using user-friendly Domain Name System technology (DNS). Ethereum Name Service now implements exactly this in the crypto universe and offers users the possibility to provide their wallet addresses with their own domain name. According to bitcoin2Go, it is an Ethereum-based dApp that uses smart contracts to guarantee the security of the registered .eth domain.

With my.box, the Ethereum addresses ending in .eth should also be made compatible with the web browser. Speaking to The Block, Nick Johnson emphasized, “We are excited that .box is the pioneer of a blockchain-native DNS-routable TLD, enabled by ENS. These bridges between Web2 and Web3 are essential to bring decentralized use cases to a wider audience make”. It is part of the overall goal with ENS to make decentralized naming a standard that is easy and usable for users, Johnson continued.

Josh Brandley, founder of my.box, told The Block that tokenizing DNS domains will only charge users small gas fees since the transactions are hosted on an Ethereum Layer2 blockchain. The mechanism of tokenizing DNS domains is key to the possible future success of the project: “Think of everything you know about .eth and then add that you also have your DNS records (via the same dApp) and you can use it for websites and email,” says Brandley.

The start of the crypto service my.box is planned for September of this year. Interested parties can already register for early access on the homepage.
