It is not as well paid as it might seem at first

It is one of the most prestigious professions ever. Being a university professor places you at the top of knowledge in whatever field you practice. Of course, the remuneration for this position is not as ostentatious as it might seem.

We must make the differentiation that we usually make between the public sector and the private sector. In this case the salary of a university professor changes drastically. There are also certain variables that can increase it.

in the universities public the salary of a teacher it’s divided in:

  • base salary: Around 2,000 euros per month.
  • Antiquity: For seniority of more than 10 years, the salary tables place it at 45,000 euros gross per year. Three-year (€40), five-year (€120) or six-year (€120) years will be automatically added to the payroll.
  • Professional category: There are professors, full professors or assistant professors. The first can earn between 3,000 and 6,000 euros per month (56,000 – 73,000 euros per year), the following, as we have already mentioned, 2,000 euros per month, while assistants, doctors and associates have a salary of between 300 and 700 euros per month, based on teaching hours.
  • Temporary management positions and add-ons: Supplements can be received for certain positions such as rector (€8,202), dean (€4,097) or head of laboratory (€3,281).
