How many Italians in European cups? Here are the scenarios

Only one case remains to get to eight clubs, however the hypothesis of the five teams in the most important event fades away. However, the minimum number remains seven. And then there’s the question of Juventus…

Eight Italian teams in Europe next season? We have already played the first bonus with Roma’s defeat in the Europa League final against Sevilla. Now only Fiorentina remains: Viola’s victory in the Conference final would give Italy eight teams in the Europe to come, while the hypothesis of seeing five in the queen’s cup, the Champions, definitively vanishes. But one day before the end of the championship, how could the final grid of the European cups be? What will the teams involved play in the last championship weekend?

Interlock

At the moment the situation is as follows: Napoli, Lazio, Inter and Milan have detached the ticket for the next Champions League, while everything is still at stake for the Europa League. Two places available and three teams involved: Atalanta (61 points), Roma (60) Juventus (59). The Goddess will play at home against Monza, the Giallorossi at the Olimpico against Spezia, while Juventus will go to Udine. At the moment Atalanta and Roma are qualified, but a final backlash could lead Juve into the Europa League to the detriment of one of the two that precede them, thus pushing them into the Conference League. As? Winning on the last day in Udine if Atalanta doesn’t win against Monza (even in the event of a draw, Juve ahead in direct matches) and Roma don’t win against Spezia at risk of relegation. Whatever happens, the teams in Europe, at that point, would be seven: 4 in the Champions League, 2 in the Europa League and 1 in the Conference. However, if Fiorentina were to win the Conference League final against West Ham, they would qualify for the next Europa League (there would therefore become 3 Italians in this competition) bringing the total to 8.

Juventus case

However, as is known, Juve is awaiting UEFA decisions in the light of the long judicial-sporting affair that involved them, which culminated in the plea bargain before the sports justice bodies. At the moment the bianconeri are qualified for the Conference League, but if they were to be excluded from the cups for a year their place would be taken by the eighth in the Serie A standings, in which Turin, Fiorentina, Monza and Bologna are registered. At least this is the line taken by UEFA in the past too: the license remains in the championship of the excluded team.
