Three observations:
1. Self Deprecatating Sprana songs
In the past few months, a song from social media has become an integral part of. From Sophie Passmann to Kylie Jenner to Madonna, everyone used the chorus of “Messy” by the British singer/songwriter Lola Young, whose laconics reminds a lily of all from ten years ago (“fuck you”), or a sobo (“I’ll”) from fifteen years ago. The concept provides for teenagers, sung by a person who is actually no more teenager: “I get what you’re Sayin ‘ / i Just Really Don’t Wanna Hear It Right Now / Can You Shut Up For Like Once In Your Life?”
A “Papa Don’t Prach” atmosphere, which is not stanza-polished, but sounds as said, sometimes in the phone, i.e. a voice message-in short: Sprana-which flows into a chorus, which is the meme table, so it is easy to fix, both in the ear and Tikok, and overall as an apology of defective being-for everyone, for Madonna, Kylie.
The Sprana-like, self-ironic speeches also owns Doechii, which in 2025 was the third artist-after Lauryn Hill (1997) and Cardi B (2019)-the Grammy for the “rap album of the year”. Her single “Denial is a river” is a soliloquy, staged like a therapy session. Doechii tells how she was led by a guy in 2019, but then it was successful on Tikkok, how much money she made, but still didn’t feel good how Dark was through dope and day drinking.
The inner zeitgeist therapist then suggests Breathwork, i.e. breathing exercises, in which the song then ends. However, they are not soothing in nature, but sound more like hyperventilation. So there is currently pop that pretends to have life under control – while the products resulting from the resulting products keep the audience under control.
2. New theatrics
It is also new to Doechii that she sees stage performances herself as a sleeve, which can apparently be easy to add elements that are not overused. While other contemporary singers such as Chappell Roan, despite their appearance as a drag queen, but on very ordinary, if not even completely trampled updated paths made of colorful, oversized stage props, such as a pink horse, plus background dancers: inside and Tongue-in Cheek-Sexuality, or how Billie Eilish on classic energetic On-the-stage-and-and-go in clothes that were otherwise more associated with male rappers, Doechii shows a different, rare idea at almost every appearance.
Be it to make her shares that are talking about themselves as two doppelgangers connected to her, with which, like her thoughts, she runs in a circle. Or a performance with dancers: inside that seem to be like Michael Endes gray gentlemen from “Momo” (also: 1986)-so, you already know, the time thieves-which then run backwards on Doechii’s treadmill, and bow to the back so nicely that even the top-class grammy audience remained open.
3. Female nerdyness as a visible lifting face tape
Doechii also reaps original points by making a completely unused rap accessory. If your male colleagues have tried a lot of masks, plasters and tooth jewelry in the past, Doechii has adopted an accessory that has been almost invisible en Vogue for about five years. It is a face-tape that is glued to the temples and is usually fixed with a tape under the hair to imitate the effect of a lifts. The facial skin is pulled away on the side, a cat -like eye is created: Lady Gaga, Charli XCX and Katy Perry use it, but overwhelm and hide. Doechii wears the face tape visible like an iron tooth clip. Isn’t that wonderfully female nerdy-like Messy?
