How do you get through the autumn holidays in these expensive times?

The autumn break has started. While the weather today is a bit on the gloomy side, it looks like spring for the rest of the week! So it’s great to get out of the house this holiday. Even in this expensive time there is plenty to do in our province. Omroep Brabant recommends the best autumn outings for a small amount.

pumpkin days
When you think of autumn, you probably think of pumpkins. The museum garden of the Klok en Peel museum in Asten is strewn with thousands of pumpkins. From 23 to 30 October they organize all kinds of workshops with this typical autumn vegetable. You can hollow out your own pumpkin here and of course taste different pumpkin dishes. Admission to the museum – and therefore also to the pumpkin garden – is €10 for adults and €5 for children.

The Gnome Path
Don’t let the warm temperatures fool you; autumn has really arrived and you can best see that in the forest. An autumn walk is even more fun with the Kabouterpad in the Mastbos in Breda. Young and old can look for traces of gnomes here. Who knows, you might find little footprints in the sand or a gnome roll here and there. And with a bit of luck you will run into the gnomes yourself. There are several statues scattered around the path with assignments for children. The Kabouterpad is accessible free of charge.

On a Spider Discovery Tour in the Peel
Another autumn classic: spiders. Scary? Not when it comes to the Peel. The forest rangers will teach you how interesting and useful these animals are. Join us on an exciting spider tour and discover how the spiders live, where they live and who knows, you might even dare to let them walk over your hand. The spider tour is on 25 and 27 October and costs €6 per adult and €4 per child.

Learning about clothes
Can you smell colors? Taste? Or even hear? At the Textile Museum in Tilburg you can! In the ‘Kleurstof’ exhibition you will discover everything about how your clothes got their color. The entrance to the textile museum is free for children up to 12 years old, costs €4 for children up to 18 years and €12.50 for adults.

On camel safari
You don’t have to catch a plane this holiday to see camels; At the camel farm in Berlicum, young and old can go on a camel safari. During the holiday safari you will first get a tour of the company and you can help feed the camels. You can also take a ride on the back of the camel.

You may not expect it, but camels also give delicious milk. The farm in Berlicum is the only camel dairy in Europe and they are happy to introduce you to the goodies. This is your chance to taste the camel milk and even bake camel milk waffles. The camel safari costs €12,-.

Crafting and collecting in the botanical garden
It’s time to put your senses to work. Learn all about autumn and its scents and colors in the botanical garden in Oudenbosch. geocaching
Geo-what?! Geocaching is a worldwide treasure hunt based on GPS coordinates and many treasures are also hidden in Brabant. On the website geocaching.com find the coordinates of the treasure. Armed with your smartphone, you then walk there and then the search is on. The treasures can be anything from coins to mini-games. The idea is that you then put something small in the cache yourself for the next treasure hunter. Also write your name in the log, which you always find with the treasure. That way, whoever has hidden it will know who has found the treasure.
