While Nick Schilder has emerged as a kind of hit tiger, we hardly hear anything from Simon Keizer anymore. Does that put further strain on their friendship? “What grade do I give it? A 6.5.”
Nick Schilder has made a very successful debut as a solo artist: the song Shatterproof was a hit. His former colleague Simon Keizer, on the other hand? We don’t hear much about that. Occasionally appears in a podcast, but doesn’t do much else. Now he has made some song with Paul de Leeuw and they were allowed to come and sing it at Renze yesterday.
“What is she referring to?”
Why do we hear so little from Simon? “I decided to take a break for a while, but then Paul came up with such a beautiful song. I thought: it’s just too good to pass up,” he says at the table Renze on Sunday.
That song is very nice, but Renze Klamer mainly wants to go back to all that crazy stuff about Nick & Simon. Did they look at each other, did they not look at each other? Did they beat each other’s brains out after that interview with Eva Jinek? “I have to admit: I have also looked back and wondered: what are they actually referring to?”, Simon responds.
Very okay
How are things going between the two now? Simon: “We are just really okay. We’ve never made it a secret that we don’t visit each other much. We always saw each other in everyday life. We weren’t the best, best friends, just buddies making music.”
Host Renze Klamer is clearly after it juice. “Just 7 friends?”
Yes, what grade does Simon actually give his friendship with Nick? “Mwoah, 6.5, 6, 7-. Haha, no, then we will analyze it after all! We text regularly. That’s going really well.”
Uninhibited
All in all, Simon doesn’t miss life as a music duo. “I found having to perform a bit tiring. Each plate was compared to the previous plate. You had to put in more effort to achieve less. Very slowly the fun faded away a bit.”
He concludes: “I’m just curious what it’s like to make music with real fun. Uninhibited.”
