“Revenge of the Eggheads” is, without flax, one of the funniest films of the eighties. It also has an uplifting message about fighting oppression, accepting differences, valuing brains over brawn, and supporting underdogs.
But there is a very unfortunate scene towards the end in which Lewis Skolnick, played by Robert Carradine, steals his rival’s Halloween costume, takes his girlfriend to a remote area without her consent and has sex with her as revenge.
It’s hilarious, and the character doesn’t mind when he realizes he’s been tricked. In the later films the two even get married.
But that doesn’t matter: this was rape, whichever way you look at it.

However, screenwriter Steve Zacharias now says he regrets the scene. She was removed from a recent musical adaptation of the film.
