It’s not the time to dive into the Kibbelkoele and tying on the skates for a round isn’t possible now either. Yet there are people who wonder where does the Kibbelkoele actually come from? How did the swimming lake come about and why is it there?
Those questions came in to the Search Het Uit! editors of RTV Drenthe. Nice to dive into, but not too deep, because the Kibbelkoele is not that deep.
Between Schoonoord, Noord-Sleen, Kibbelveen and the N376 is a swimming lake called Kibbelkoele. This swimming lake was created during the construction of the N381 motorway, the Friesland route. They needed sand to build part of that road, which was excavated in nearby Kibbelveen. Several sand excavations in that area are there for the same reason.
