The murder of Maga activist Charlie Kirk on a university campus in Utah has sparked a wave of anger on the right. Many politicians and influencers attack “Die Linke”. Others openly call for retribution and even warn of a “civil war”.

Trump’s rhetoric and first reactions

Shortly after Kirk’s death was confirmed on Wednesday, President Donald Trump held a speech in the Oval Office. Without evidence, he presented Kirk’s murder as the “radical left”. He scourged critics who compared “wonderful Americans like Charlie with Nazis and the worst murderers and criminals in the world”.

Trump said that such rhetoric was “directly responsible for terrorism that we see today in our country”. He promised “to hold everyone who contributed to this atrocity”, as well as those “who are against our law enforcement officers”. He concluded with the warning that “radical left -wing political violence … violated too many innocent people and cost too many lives”.

Matt Walsh, a right podist like Kirk, wrote on X on Wednesday on X: “All rights have to stand together. We face demonic powers from hell.” On Thursday he followed: “I woke up even more angry.” He rejected reconciliation calls: “You want to see us dead. They kill us. Now is not the time for Kumbaya.”

Arms lobbyists also tightened the tone. The President of the American Firearms Association sent an email: “Charlie Kirk gave his life in the struggle for freedom … We all decide to smash the communist left without remorse.”

Radicalization in social media

Right-wing activist Laura Loomer Association Kirk’s death with the murder of the Ukrainian immigrant Iryna Zarutska: “Between the video of IRYNA and that of Charlie, both loyal to the neck, this was a very radicalizing week.”

Actor and activist James Woods openly wrote: “Dear Left: We can speak or lead a civil war. Another shot from your side, and you will no longer have this choice.”

Ali Alexander, co-organizer of the “Stop the Steal” movement, asked Telegram Trump to “seize power that is normally not practiced”. Specifically: “10 percent of the left must be arrested, accused, detained or forced to flee.”

Neo -Nazis and right propaganda

Even neo -Nazis want to use Kirk’s death propaganda. The Blood Tribe group wrote: “Charlie Kirk was our enemy during his lifetime. In death, he is a martyr in death because he was killed in a climate in which he was considered one of us.”

While the calls become louder after retaliation, the perpetrator remains fleeting. The FBI search is running, a suspect initially arrested was released again. Investigators found a hunting rifle .30 in a forest near the campus. According to the “Wall Street Journal”, the ammunition was engraved with symbols “transgender and anti-fascist ideology”- information that “New York Times” is not confirmed.

Kirk’s legacy and new targets

Kirk polarized throughout his life-from his defense of the “Stop the Steal” movement to statements about “white demography in America”, which were even criticized by the anti-defamation League. Now he praises characters like Vice President JD Vance as well as liberal voices for his argument.

At the same time, right -wing influencer Kirk’s critics attack. The social media star Catturd wrote a threat of leftists who mocked his death: “We will expose you all.” Loomer announced that government employees “doxen” and to destroy the livelihood. MP Clay Higgins (R-La.) Also called for a lifelong social media ban for those who downplayed Kirk’s murder.

Meaning for the right movement

Kirk was one of the most influential voices in the right media and political network, steering young men as well as the religious milieu into the ballot boxes. His organization Turning Point USA operated a massive campaign for Trump 2024. He was also a leading podcaster and producer of viral videos.

In Utah, Kirk performed with liberal students as part of a debate tour. The fatal rifle hit him in his throat when he just answered a question about mass shootings – with the provocative addition: “Do we count gang crime with or not?”
