“How can something this bad really be done?” – The new version of Spede and Loir’s classic film received a crushing review from the critics

Spede Pasanen and Vesa-Matti Loirin the 1971 classic backpack Unhangable premieres today as a remake.

In the original film, Pasanen plays Speedy Gonzales, Loiri the lone rider and Simo Salminen Tonto.

Viola/Gonzales surrenders to a strange bandit duo, who now believe that they will get a good reward from this highwayman. While the two are carrying Gonzales to the gallows, they get lost in the desert. The day’s journey turns into an adventure that tests the trio’s physical resilience and mental maturity.

The film’s working group has said that references to indigenous peoples have been completely omitted from the 2020s film.

Like a home video

Unhangable-the new version of the film has received a huge amount of media attention and the critics have given it a harsh verdict. The remake has been named In the review of Episodi magazine Jussi Huhtalan through the agency of “the worst film of the millennium”. The work received one star from Huhtala.

– Instead of Vesku’s song, we play around with Hirviniemi’s horrible autotune. Much of the dialogue feels like improvised slapstick that doesn’t move the story forward in any way and doesn’t provide laughs. Hirttämämätät is like a home video made by a bachelor party or a trash theater performed on the edge of a sandpit, Huhtala writes in Episodis.

Loiri imitations

Two stars for the movie was given by a critic of Helsingin Sanomat Pekka Torvinen. The critic is particularly ashamed of Aku Hirviniemi’s role performance.

– Hirviniemi plays the most brainless member of the trio, and he also puts his body to the test by, for example, swimming in wet sand. The best jokes are also written for him, although talking about the best jokes in this context is sacrilege to the best jokes. Hirviniemi also does the obligatory Loiri imitations, unfortunately, Torvinen states in Helsingin Sanomat.

“Something this bad”

Karjalainen magazine Olli Matti Oinonen gave the movie only one star. To him, the film looks just like the creators having fun with each other.

– The film is not funny, but mainly an exhausting amateurish rant. Cameo roles include Hannele Lauri, Kari Hietalahti, Jasper Pääkkönen and surprise surprise, Janne Kataja. They don’t come out that much more amazing, when everything else is already standing up by force. The team of creators must have had fun doing this in their own bubble, but when the bubble is burst for the public to see, all that remains is wonder: how can something so bad really be made, Oinonen teases in Karjalainen.
