How is it possible that Rick Brandsteder can simply decide to stop working? He hasn’t eaten anything for over a year. “He now lives in Spain and is swimming in money.”
Privé star journalist Jan Uriot’s question about where presenter Rick Brandsteder has gone has been answered: after his admission to a rehab clinic, he decided to quit television. “I have closed the TV chapter after 17 years and that gives me a good feeling,” he says in a written response Show news.
Why stopped?
Why did Rick quit? “I had been thinking about this for some time and after my period in the clinic in South Africa and the recording of Het Perfecte Plaatje, I received complete confirmation that it had been beautiful for me.”
He continues: “I have really enjoyed working all these years, met wonderful people and visited beautiful places, so I look back on it with a big smile! Now time for new adventures that give me a lot of energy.”
Dead end
Private boss Evert Santegoeds thinks it’s great that Rick dares to take such a big step. “Yes, 39 years old and as you just saw him there in Het Perfecte Plaatje, he is clearly feeling very good about himself, but that has been different. There were often stories about mischief, often stories about drinking and other things that did not do his career any good.”
He continues: “I think it’s great if you just decide at that age: I’m at a dead end, I’m doing well now, let’s just keep it that way. Then I must immediately say that that is also possible, because the Brandsteder family is of course in good hands, right?”
Rich Rick
Rick is swimming in family money, Evert knows. “His grandfather was the Dutch representative of Sony, once sold that company back to Sony in Japan and since then the family has been doing very well and I think we have seen less of Dad on television. It’s a big decision for him. I think it’s brave.”
What will Rick do now? “He doesn’t want to say that any further. He actually lives in Spain. That’s basically where he sits all the time, in the family house.”
