A disaster releases good and bad things in people. After the farmhouse of Bauke Roel Ruisendaal from Nij Beets was destroyed by fire, he was not only offered a lot of help, he also caught robbers with metal detectors in the rubble.
101 colorful rosettes hung from the ceiling of the bedroom of 11-year-old Gijs Jan Ruisendaal. All won with horseback riding.
His father Bauke Roel points upwards, to a window in the unstable remains of his self-built farmhouse on the Krûme Swynswei in the outskirts of Nij Beets. He can barely hold back his tears. “Look, you can see a few more hanging around.”
