HOV bus route work in Huizen halted, costs considerably higher than expected

Work on the fast HOV bus between Hilversum and Huizen has been temporarily halted on the route through Huizen. The construction between Huizermaatweg and Stroomzijde turns out to be a lot more expensive than expected. The municipality therefore has to sit around the table again with the contractor BAM.

The municipality of Huizen made agreements about an amount during the tender, but according to BAM the costs are considerably higher. The construction company therefore indicates that implementation within this budget is no longer feasible.

It is not (yet) clear to the municipality why it is so expensive. They are currently in talks with BAM to find a solution. “It is the responsibility of the client and the contractor to achieve this in good cooperation,” says alderman Roland Boom.

In any case, the municipality does not intend to pay more for the time being. Boom: “I am confident that we will join forces and do what we have agreed with each other.”

Trees

The construction of the so-called East-West axis previously caused a lot of resistance in the neighbourhood. For example, trees had to be cut down for the construction of the bus line between Huizermaatweg and Stroomzijde. Nevertheless, the municipality wanted to continue the work. The ‘new’ east-west connection should make the route safer and more efficient for cyclists and pedestrians.

This connection is therefore only pending for the time being. It is not yet clear when work will resume.
