Katrien Vangaever and Martin Gobyn live in the heart of Bruges. The sixties had an old malthouse converted into a home where they can live for a long time, with a lift, plenty of space for a wheelchair if necessary and no thresholds to, for example, the terrace or the shower.
Martin Gobyn: “I have Behtref’s disease, so I know that I will suddenly have difficulty walking. And then I may need a wheelchair. That’s why we also opted for something that is accessible with a lift. And where you can easily get around in a wheelchair.”
“We also have a lot of sliding doors,” adds Katrien Vangaever. “A sliding door is always easier to open than a door that you have to squeeze to get in with a wheelchair.”
