That reports advice chain De Hypotheker on Tuesday based on its own figures. The chain sees the strongest declines in the number of mortgage applications for a purchase in Zeeland (-29%), Overijssel (-29%), Groningen (-27%) and Drenthe (-25%).
The average mortgage amount rose by 10.5% to €325,000 last year, according to De Hypotheker. The largest increase in the average mortgage amount was seen in Groningen (+19%), but the increase was also above average in Friesland (+12%) and North Holland (+13%).
“Healthy housing market”
“Due to the drying housing market in the Randstad, we saw that home buyers moved to other regions. The housing market was still somewhat healthy, so that provinces such as Groningen, Overijssel and Zeeland became increasingly popular. Now that the housing shortage is also spreading to other parts of the Netherlands, the housing market is in danger of shutting down here too,” says Michel van den Akker, chairman of the board of De Hypotheker.
