The municipality of Breda is taking measures after two homes were severely damaged by an explosion in the night from Friday to Saturday. A mobile camera will be placed near both buildings in Meidoornstraat. Boas and agents will also carry out extra surveillance.
According to the municipality, this should prevent new incidents. “If something does happen, the camera helps to detect suspects,” says the municipality. It is still unclear how long the camera will be used. The municipality, the police and the Public Prosecution Service will discuss this further.
A loud bang startled the Tuinzigt district around a quarter past four in the morning. The explosion shattered all the front windows. “The roof tiles also flew off a roof. There are shards of glass and broken roof tiles everywhere on the street,” said a police spokesperson. Two cars and a scooter were also damaged.
Huge blow
People were present in both houses and they were therefore very shocked. “My children were sleeping up there!” said one of the residents. “It was really a huge blow. I immediately said to my husband, what is this! The whole house was full of smoke. It was a big mess.”
Deputy mayor Arjen van Drunen says he understands that the explosion has a major impact on the residents. “Everyone should feel safe in their neighborhood. It’s important to share your concerns,” he says. According to him, this can be done with Victim Support or the community police officer.
