Household contents of deceased woman yield neighbors 600,000 euros | Inland

The proceeds are a lot higher than the auction house had previously estimated. “We had expected around 300,000 euros,” said Jacco Scheper, director of Heritage Auctions Europe. “The neighbors have left here stunned and of course very satisfied with the proceeds.” Due to privacy reasons, the residence of the neighbors has not been disclosed.

Chinese lacquer box

An openwork jade belt buckle with a starting price of 100 euros sold for 23,000 euros, a Chinese porcelain plate fetched 20,000 euros and a so-called Chinese lacquer box from the 16th century sold for no less than 123,000 euros. The latter was bought by a telephone bidder from Hong Kong. A rare pair of Delft tulip vases was also sold for 54,000 euros and jewelery and silver objects were auctioned.

The neighbor and her previously deceased husband were collectors themselves and had a collection of Asian items, so-called Asians. “An enormous demand from Asian bidders in particular led to a bidding war on various top items,” says Scheper.
