The house sparrow was most often seen in Drenthe during the National Garden Bird Count. From the preliminary results, the house sparrow has been counted just over 25,000 times in Drenthe.
The house sparrow was also counted most often nationally, just like in all previous editions. The house sparrow lives in groups, which is why it stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of absolute numbers. Nationally, the house sparrow has been spotted more than 360,000 times, the great tit follows with about 230,000.
The top five of birds spotted in Drenthe is equal to the national top five. In addition to the house sparrow and the great tit, there are also the blue tit, blackbird and chaffinch. The great tit has been seen about 11,000 times in the province, the blue tit just under 9,000 times.
In Drenthe, just over 4,000 residents participated in the National Garden Count this weekend. They have seen more than 85,000 birds.
Vogelbescherming keeps the count together with Sovon Vogelonderzoek Nederland. Participants can enter the results until 12:00 tomorrow morning.
