The raid is part of the judicial investigation into ‘t Sloeberhuisje, the childcare center in Mariakerke near Ghent. There, a six-month-old baby suffered a brain trauma last week. The girl was taken to UZ Gent, but died there two days later from her injuries.
The manageress and her father were arrested. Only the father is still in jail today. He is suspected of intentional assault and battery resulting in death without intent to kill.
