‘House of the Dragon’ is already the biggest premiere in HBO history

‘The House of the Dragon’ It is already the new jewel in the HBO crown. The premiere of his first chapter in the USlast Sunday (this Monday, in Spain), attracted an audience of almost 10 million viewers (specifically, 9.98 million), making it the biggest premiere in the history of the platform.

The premiere was also best series launch to date on HBO Max in the United States, Latin America and the so-called EMEA region: Europe, Middle East and Africa (although transmission figures are not usually broken out).

“It was wonderful to see millions of fans of Game of Thrones return with us to Westeros last night,” HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys said in a statement.

“‘House of the Dragon’ features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production, and we’re thrilled with the positive response from viewers. We look forward to sharing with audiences more that George has in store for them.” [R.R. Martin]Ryan [Condal] and Michael [Sapochnik] for them this season”, continued the executive.

Comparison of ‘Game of Thrones’

The platform’s new star fiction, whose plot is also based on a fantastic story by George RR Martin but situated 200 years before ‘Game of thrones’, at the time of Aegon I Targaryen, the Conqueror, creator of the coveted Iron Throne, which several generations of Targaryens will follow, also attracted the largest single-night audience for HBO since ‘Game of Thrones’ finale drew 19.3 million viewers in May 2019.

After that bombshell, the best one-night count came with the season two finale of ‘euphoria’in February, which had 6.6 million cross-platform viewers.

‘House of the Dragon’ also dwarfed the audience of 2011’s ‘Game of Thrones’ debut (2.22 million viewers on the same day, according to Nielsen), though it’s almost impossible to make a comparison completely similar between the two series as HBO had a much more limited streaming presence in 2011 and didn’t even regularly report viewership data. And there is no doubt that ‘Game of Thrones’ was something new for viewers at the time, while ‘The House of the Dragon’ is based on the great success of its predecessor.

awesome cast

The cast of ‘The House of the Dragon’ includes Emma D’Arcy (‘Wanderlust’), matt smith (‘Doctor Who’, ‘The Crown’), Rhys Ifans (‘The King’s Man’, ‘Spider-Man’) and Olivia Cooke (‘Bates Motel’, ‘Ready Player One’) and Paddy Considine.

The series, which mixes fantasy and political intrigue, begins in the heyday of the Targaryen dynasty whose power, resting essentially on his domain of dragonsis weakened by succession struggles.

This HBO production will have to compete, in popularity and audience, with the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power derived from the fantastic literary saga, created by J. R. R. Tolkienand adapted at great expense by Amazon Prime Video.
