House of Brian’s girlfriend on Weverstraat is target of criminals: “Unbelievable”

For Brian Meyer from Purmerend, the blackened facade is the image of the nightmare he experienced the past few nights. His girlfriend’s house is the target of a “criminal conflict.” Brian: “All I heard was screams and fire.”

His girlfriend’s house is the target of a ‘criminal conflict’. The police emphasize that a mistake seems to go from the criminal environment. The house was shot at last Thursday and today the house was targeted again. This time, the residents and the neighborhood were awakened by an explosion. Then a fire broke out

According to residents, it was a quiet neighborhood. “It gives a nasty and unpleasant feeling,” a shocked local resident tells NH reporter Rachel Morssink. “Then you think: ‘well come on.’ This is not normal.”

High flames and lots of smoke

Brian agrees that it is anything but normal. His girlfriend’s house is the target of the attacks. He and her daughter were sleeping there at the time of the shots and explosion. “It’s horrible, unbelievable,” says Brian, shocked. “All I heard was screaming and fire. I didn’t wake up from a bang. The screaming was louder.”

When Brian woke up, he said flames about five feet high were coming from the front facade. “And a lot of smoke.” He was sleeping at the back at the time and together with his girlfriend they first tried to extinguish the fire with a bucket. “We have remained calm.” After putting out the fire, they were brought down via the neighbour’s roof terrace.

The shock is now, a few hours later, quite in. Brian: “It’s awful. I can’t comprehend it. I feel empty.” He doesn’t understand why his girlfriend’s house is targeted. “I think they have the wrong door. I think it’s ridiculous. Beyond ridiculous. Unbelievable. You wouldn’t think of it.” He wouldn’t say whether it’s about the neighbours.

Why?

Police reported that on Sunday a 20-year-old Purmerender has been arrested for these incidents. Whether there is a connection between these attacks is under investigation. The family is doing ‘good under the circumstances’, but they are not sleeping at home for the time being.
