House in Waalwijk burned down, resident suspected of arson

The inhabitant of a house on the Mgr. Prinsenstraat in Waalwijk, whose ground floor apartment burned down on Saturday morning, has been arrested. The man is suspected of setting fire to his house, police said.

“The man looked confused,” a police spokesperson said. The resident has been detained at the police station.

Rescuers helped the resident, who was upstairs when they arrived, to get out in time. A rabbit in a cage was also rescued from the house.

The fire in Waalwijk was under control around 10 a.m. Several houses in the area suffered smoke damage. The Salvage Foundation supports the residents of these houses in the settlement.

Police will continue to investigate the fire.
