House in De Haan uninhabitable due to fallen scented candle

An fallen scented candle turned out to be the culprit. The fire started shortly before 4 am in a house along Ringlaan-Noord in De Haan.

Child is slightly injured

When the fire brigade arrived on the scene, flames were already shooting out of the roof. The three residents of the building had already gotten themselves to safety at that time.

One of the children of the family that had recently rented the property had to be taken to hospital with minor burns.

The cause is a candle

The Bruges public prosecutor’s office decided not to appoint a fire expert because the circumstances were sufficiently clear. An fallen scented candle turned out to be the culprit.

The building was declared uninhabitable, but the house next door could be saved.
