Two dogs died in a fire in a house on Ranonkellaan in Hoogkarspel on Saturday evening. One resident of the home was taken to hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.
A spokesman for the fire service said it received a report of a house fire around 5.45 pm. The flames in the house were clearly visible from outside. Because animals were also present in the house, the animal ambulance was also called. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene and quickly had the fire under control.
But for the residents’ two dogs, help came too late. A spokesman for the Hoorn animal ambulance says that the four-legged friends died from suffocation from the smoke. Several cats may also have died, the spokesperson could not confirm this at the moment.
It is not clear how the fire started and is being investigated.
