Razors, flippos, paintings, vases, copper pots and skates. You can’t imagine it being in Moup’s house in Meppel. His house was filled to the brim. Moup passed away last December at the age of 94. His heirs must now empty the house.
“He was a special, but a nice man,” says Johan Kats, one of the heirs. “Moup was always cheerful and told the same joke every time you came. He was a bird of paradise.”
Moup was an antiques dealer in Meppel in the 1970s and 1980s. Together with his wife Jannie, he had a shop there, where well-known Dutch people, such as Ramses Shaffy, also visited.
When Jannie passed away, Moup started collecting more and more. Eventually his whole house was full. Moup slept on the couch where he died last December. Kats was not sure for a long time that he was one of the heirs. “Then you’ll be scared.” Because, what do you do with all that stuff?
Via via Kats came into contact with Richard Hessink, auctioneer from Zwolle. Hessink will soon be organizing a traditional daily auction, where the entire household goods will be sold.
“Hopefully that way we will get out of the costs a bit, but otherwise not,” says Kats. “We’ve always had a good time with him. We’re just doing this for him. He’s earned that.”
