Since Sunday evening, a large fire has been raging in a warehouse with waste from the Ecopark company on Hazepad in Breda. The fire caused smoke nuisance for hours. The fire brigade had the situation under control around a quarter to ten. The previously sent NL-alert due to the smoke nuisance was therefore withdrawn at that time.
The smoke lingered low for a long time because of the weather. The Central West Brabant Security Region therefore advised closing windows and doors and turning off the ventilation if you were bothered by the smoke.
Around a quarter to ten, there was still some light, smelly smoke, a spokesman said. “That may continue for a while,” he said. No one was injured in the fire, and according to the Security Region, there were no hazardous substances. It is not clear how the fire started.
Ecopark is a storage and transshipment company that stores household and business waste, among other things. At around 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening, firefighters said they were still busy putting out the fire. At that time it was raining heavily in Breda. However, the fire service indicated that the (after) extinguishing would take several hours.
Bulldozer
Burning and smoldering material, waste stored at the company, had to be pulled apart and extinguished. To do this, it first had to be driven out with a bulldozer. A job that the fire brigade was still working on around a quarter to ten.
The first report of the fire came to the fire service around 7:30 am. In 2018, a fire also raged at the company.
