In Haarlem-Noord, the center, Parkwijk and Schalkwijk there are all kinds of things to do for children. For example, they can play football and basketball, but there was also an outdoor cinema at the Toneelschuur yesterday.

The hot dog games are part of Summer 22, which is being organized for the second time. The event focuses mainly on children who do not go on holiday or who are not at home because the sports associations are closed. “Last year during corona we started Summer 21,” said Shadde Fessaha community leader of Triple Threat. “That was such a success that we did it again this year.”

“We from Triple Threat mainly focus on the children in Schalkwijk and Parkwijk,” continues Fessaha. “But actually all children of Haarlem are of course welcome.”

Striking name

But why is it called the Hotdog Games? The striking name, according to Fessaha, comes from a basketball camp. “There they all had games with inflatable pillows. At the end of the day, hot dogs were eaten,” he laughs.

The organization hopes to organize many more such events for young people in the future. “It’s important that the young people have something to do, when I was younger I didn’t have this,” emphasizes Fessaha. “So I certainly hope we can welcome Summer 23 next year.”
