Stomping steps on ultra-high platform boots, Gene Simmons’ super tongue licking the bass strings, plus fire and fake blood. Even after 50 years, Kiss still know how a proper rock show works.
On their farewell tour, the four masked men in the Max-Schmeling-Halle relied on the tried and tested on Thursday evening. Playlist and appearance have hardly changed in recent years. But why should it, if that’s how it works?
Already with the opening classic “Detroit Rock City”, where the band floated into the room on flying platforms, the Kiss Army in the hall was jubilantly in line. Simmons spat fire, later even fake blood.
Tommy Thayer shot rockets with his guitar to “Cold Gin.” And ‘Starchild’ Paul Stanley floated through the room on a trapeze like in the old days.
In the end, of course, “I was made for lovin’ you”. Kiss, we will miss you dearly!
