Hot air balloon gets into trouble over Paterswoldsemeer and makes an emergency landing in a meadow

A hot air balloon made an emergency landing on Wednesday evening in a meadow in Paterswolde. The four passengers and the pilot escaped unhurt.

The balloonists ran into problems above the Paterswoldsemeer when a hole appeared in the balloon for an unknown reason. The balloonist reported problems with the balloon to air traffic control at Groningen Airport Eelde. The problems would affect the ‘turn valves’ that the balloonist uses to turn the balloon.

The police drove many cars to the spot where the balloon was in the air and a police helicopter that was nearby flew there. An ambulance was called as a precaution, but the police quickly announced that it was not necessary.

The hot air balloon flew slowly over the Paterswoldsemeer and was able to make an emergency landing in a meadow. The four passengers and the pilot escaped unhurt.
