The promoted team celebrates the relegated team: In the 3rd league, SSV Ulm achieved a late 2-1 (0-1) win at SV Sandhausen. The hosts had to operate outnumbered for a long time.
SV Sandhausen started the encounter with a lot of momentum. Less than a minute had been played when David Otto played a pass to Rouwen Hennings, who was denied by Ulm keeper Christian Ortag from a tight angle.
Things continued to be intense: Sandhausen’s Felix Göttlicher had to leave the field with a yellow-red card in the ninth minute. The summer newcomer knocked Ulm’s Leonardo Scienza off his feet near the halfway line after he had been warned two minutes earlier.
However, the SVS did not react with shock. After a long ball from keeper Nikolai Rehnen, Ulm’s captain Johannes Reichert made a mistake, attacker Otto didn’t miss the chance and scored to make it 1-0 (12th minute).
Rehnen is there twice
Although the Ulm team had advantages in the majority, they still had difficulty creating clear chances. The SVS defended consistently and kept the Sparrows away from their own goal. It was only shortly before the break that the Ulm team had serious opportunities. First, Rehnen directed a cross from Scienza around the post. Then the keeper defused a header from Philipp Maier after the subsequent corner (41′).
The Ulm team came out of the locker room with a lot of pressure and established themselves in the Sandhäuser penalty area. However, things initially got really dangerous on the other side. After the ball slipped through Ortag’s hands, Hennings fired past the box (52′).
Chessa breaks the spell for Ulm
The SVS bulwark lasted until the 67th minute. Then Dennis Chessa equalized for Ulm. After a one-two with Nicolas Jann, he shot the ball towards the goal. The shot was deflected by Geschwill and landed in the top left corner.
As a result, the SVS continued to act with self-sacrifice, the Ulm team wanted the winning goal. Shortly before the end, Otto almost provided SVS with a lucky punch, but the attacker failed after preparatory work by substitute Dennis Diekmeier (87th).
Instead, the sparrows struck again decisively. After a pass from Romario Rösch, substitute Tobias Rühle scored late to make it 2-1 for Ulm. Sandhausen’s coach Danny Galm brought Livan Burcu into the game in stoppage time, who went straight for the free kick. However, Ortag was able to defuse his attempt in a remarkable way (90.+3). With the win, the SSV consolidated second place in the table, Sandhausen is in eighth place with 14 points.
