The hostage-taker is a 27-year-old Amsterdammer, the police reported. Officers searched two homes.
The man being held hostage managed to run out of the Apple Store when a package was delivered to his door. When the hostage-taker went after him, the police were able to hit the perpetrator. The man rolled hard over the hood, after which he ended up on the street. Images showed how he was hit hard by a police car and then lay motionless on the street.
No bomb vest
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) found no explosives on his body. The condition of the hostage, who was able to be taken to safety, has not yet been released. Footage showed him being held and threatened with a weapon during the hostage situation.

During and shortly after the hostage situation, the police managed to bring several people who were also in the Apple Store to safety. They have been received by officers and are also offered victim assistance.
It is not yet known what preceded the hostage-taking. An employee of the Apple Store is said to have previously said it was a robbery, according to AT5. Police have yet to comment on whether the hostage-taker made demands during the hours he spent at the property.
It was a coming and going of emergency services on Tuesday. Trams had to take a detour and De Balie, among others, canceled the evening program.
