Host HCAW wins Charles Urbanus Tournament, Dutch champion Pirates fourth

HCAW has won the fortieth edition of the Charles Urbanus Tournament. Danny Rombley’s team defeated Neptunus at home in the final, 5-1. Amsterdam Pirates lost twice in the exhibition tournament and had to settle for fourth place.

HCAW nipped Twins Oosterhout on Saturday, 3-2, to qualify for the final. In it, it met Neptunus, which finished in second place in last year’s Holland Series after a blistering battle with Amsterdam Pirates. In the final, HCAW immediately took the lead and went on to win 5-1 after nine full innings.

On Saturday, the team from Amsterdam lost 9-4 to Neptunus from Rotterdam. The team of the new coach Ronald Jaarsma was therefore sentenced to play the match for third place. Today it went down with those same numbers against Twins Oosterhout. However, the game was halted in the seventh inning due to bad weather at 9-4.

The big league of baseball starts next Thursday. Reigning Dutch champion Pirates then meets PhD student RCH from Heemstede, HCAW gets Hoofddorp Pioniers a visit and DSS/Kinheim travels to Rotterdam to meet Neptunus.
