MusicThe British city that will organize the Eurovision Song Contest has to cancel other events for this. Sources at various municipalities have reported this to the BBC. The location must be available about six to eight weeks before the song festival.
Interested cities can submit a bid book since last week. Sixteen cities – including London, Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester – have already expressed an interest in organizing the Eurovision Song Contest. A shortlist with the last contenders will be announced on Friday.
Several concerts are planned in the cities around the period of the song festival. Shows of André Rieu, Elton John and Magic Mike could then possibly make way for the event in May. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will probably only announce in the autumn which British city will host the Eurovision Song Contest of 2023.
Normally, Ukraine would organize the song festival after the Kalush Orchestra’s victory in May, but that is not possible because of the war with Russia. The United Kingdom is now hosting the event “on behalf of” Ukraine. The country does get involved in the organization and several elements, also related to the war, are reflected in the show.
