Hospitals in the province inaccessible due to malfunction, 112 also difficult to reach

A malfunction at telephone provider Vodafone means that several hospitals in the province are difficult or impossible to reach. Calling the emergency number 112 can also be more difficult. It is not yet clear when the malfunction will be resolved.

The Dijklander hospital, with locations in Purmerend, Hoorn, Enkhuizen and Volendam, is now completely unavailable by phone.

Iris Heijnen, spokesman for the Dijklander Hospital, emphasizes that the safety of patients is not at stake. The doctors can reach each other. “It is extremely annoying for patients who want to schedule an appointment or ask questions about their treatment.”

The OLVG hospital, with several locations in Amsterdam, is also affected by the malfunction. The hospital is currently not accessible at all. “We are currently working on an alternative telephone number on which you can reach OLVG”, spokesperson Ellis in ‘t Hout said. For non-urgent matters, she especially recommends waiting.

Whatsapp

Heijnen says that the hospital is in close contact with Vodafone. The provider advises their customers to call via services such as Whatsapp or Facetime for the time being.

There are also problems with calling 112, which means that Vodafone customers may be in contact but hear nothing or cannot hear them. Vodafone advises people to call 112 via a fixed line or to use the 112 app.
