Hospitals in Drenthe are experiencing a quiet turn of the year

While hospitals in other parts of the country had a busy evening and night, it remained very quiet in Drenthe. A total of six people were brought in at the three emergency departments in Drenthe with complaints that can be linked to the turn of the year.

By far the largest part of these ended up in hospital in Meppel, where it concerned four people during the night. According to a spokesperson for the hospital Isala Meppel, that number was not too bad. However, the injuries were on average quite serious, such as severe burns and eye injuries.

The hospital in Meppel says that three victims were injured by fireworks on the face, eye, hand or torso. Another person ended up in hospital after a fall due to alcohol consumption.

“It was nice and quiet in Emmen,” reports the head of the emergency department of the Treant hospital. “In the evening and night, no patients passed by with injuries related to the turn of the year. Only during the day there was 1 firework victim in the hospital in Emmen. Let’s always keep it so calm and tidy in Drenthe,” concludes the doctor enthusiastically.

And the Wilhelmina Hospital Assen (WZA) also confirms the picture of a quiet turn of the year. Last night was more or less like a typical night in the hospital, according to an emergency room doctor. “If we look at the patients who came in, two can be linked to New Year’s Eve. There was 1 victim with fireworks injuries and there was 1 alcohol-related victim.”
