Hospitals in Drenthe and Groningen will collaborate in the field of oncology

A letter of intent was signed on Friday. The oncology network will have its own board installed and a name in March.

The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), Martini Hospital, Ommelander Hospital Groningen, Wilhelmina Hospital Assen and Treant Zorggroep in Stadskanaal, Emmen and Hoogeveen will collaborate more closely in a so-called ‘oncology network’.

People with cancer can therefore always count on even more tailor-made care within their own region, regardless of in which hospital the care process starts.

Sharing expertise and facilities

Four smaller regional oncology networks already existed in the provinces of Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe and parts of Overijssel and Gelderland. These four smaller, regional oncology networks will continue to exist, but the expertise and facilities will be shared with even more hospitals.
