Hospital! Schumacher breaks his lumbar vertebrae in an accident

David Schumacher fractured his first lumbar vertebra in his accident during the DTM season finale at Hockenheim.

The 20-year-old’s father, former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher, confirmed the injury: “When David came home, he was still complaining of back pain. We then decided to go to a hospital in Salzburg to get a Had an MRI done and it turned out that a lumbar vertebra was fractured.”

“According to the treating doctors, this means a break of around six weeks for David,” said Ralf Schumacher of the “Deutsche Presse-Agentur” and “motorsport-magazin.com”. His son now wears a binding corset to stabilize his back. An operation is not necessary.

David Schumacher sustained the injury in Saturday’s German Touring Car Masters race. He had collided with Thomas Preining (Bernhard-Porsche) in his Winward-Mercedes.

Schumacher then had to skip Sunday’s race at the Hockenheimring, which brought his first season in the DTM to an early end.
