Before the cup game in Bielefeld
What Werder coach Steffen is “not happy”

The preparation of Werder Bremen is slow. The new trainer Horst Steffen is anything but happy – and explains what bothers him.
Werder Bremen’s trainer Horst Steffen complained about his team’s goal, before his first competitive game. “You can be sure that, as the one who likes to play football, I am not happy with the fact that we scored so few goals in preparation,” said the coach before the DFB Cup game at second division Arminia Bielefeld on Friday (8:45 p.m.).
In a more sporty preparation, the Bremen only scored one goal against opponents such as TSG Hoffenheim and Udinese Calcio. In the two double tests against the clubs, they also suffered four defeats. In addition, it was only a zero number against the Italian club Parma Calcio. Only against regional league team Kickers Emden (3: 1) and top division FC Verden 04 (6: 0) Werder kept the upper hand.
Steffen is still optimistic about the competitive start: “I am still confident that the boys who are there will score goals.” The new Werder coach also emphasizes that something can still happen on the transfer market: “That we are happy to welcome another player who scores goals,” says Steffen.
According to his own statement, Werder plans at least two more transfers. The Bremeners have to compensate for the exits of strikers Oliver Burke (Union Berlin) and Marvin Ducksch (Birmingham City). In addition, the long -term failures of Mitchell Weiser (cruciate ligament tear) and Jens Stage (foot problems) burden the team.
Steffen takes his remaining attacker Keke Topp, Justin Njinmah and Marco Grüll protected despite the problems in attack. You want to “don’t make it worse than you are,” said Steffen. After all, they all had already met in the Bundesliga.
However, the Bremeners have no good memories of Cup opponents Bielefeld. In February of this year, the SVW failed in the Cup quarter-finals on the Arminia (1: 2). The third division at the time later moved into the final sensationally and lost there Bremen’s league competitor VfB Stuttgart.
