The Public Prosecution Service (OM) is investigating a connection with the horse breeding company Nijboer Stables in Assen in the money laundering case involving Jumbo CEO Frits van Eerd and main suspect Theo E. from Gasteren. Horse breeding is at the center of another investigation into drug trafficking, gun possession, money laundering and fraud.
In 2018, the brothers Gerrie N. (49) and Alex N. (51), their 71-year-old mother and 46-year-old girlfriend, all from Assen, were arrested after a raid on a horse breeding farm owned by the mother and her youngest son. The police also searched ten other buildings in Roden, Steenwijk and Amsterdam, among others. The four are suspected of drug and weapon possession, fraud and money laundering.
The other case revolves around money laundering and property laundering. On September 13 of this year, house searches were carried out in various places in the Netherlands. In addition to the home of Jumbo top man Frits van Eerd, there were also raids in Gasteren, including Theo E. Other suspects include a 57-year-old woman and a 48-year-old woman from Gasteren, a 50-year-old woman from Assen, two 33-year-old men from Assen and a 46-year-old man from Assen.
Hundreds of thousands of euros in cash were found in the case involving Theo E. and Frits van Eerd. According to the newspaper, the police, OM and Fiod are focusing on the horse breeding of the N family in the investigation into that money.
Gerrie N., Alex N., the mother and the girlfriend were in the news again earlier this month because their trial was postponed after death threats and a lawyer change. In July of this year, shots were also fired on the horse breeding grounds.
According to DvhN, the money laundering case involving Theo E. and Frits van Eerd is so big that the substantive hearing cannot take place in 2023, but only in 2024.
