A heavy foul in the English trophy triggered a lot of sensation at the weekend. Thingles, some of which also culminated in Hass.

FC Millwall has protected its goalkeeper Liam Roberts for violent social media attacks. The second division club condemned the “disgusting” insults on the net that were directed against the keeper after the foul on Jean-Philippe Mateta in the FA Cup on Saturday. The allegations are “unjustified,” said the club.

Mateta was hit in the London city duel against Millwall by Roberts in a failed rescue operation with the tunnels on the head. Crystal Palace striker suffered a deep wound on the left ear and had to be sewn with 25 stitches in the hospital.

As Millwall announced, Roberts personally apologized to Mateta in the evening – and he immediately accepted the apology.

The goalkeeper’s hard climbing triggered discussions in England. Crystal Palace boss Steve Parish said critically and said the BBC: “This is the most ruthless attack on a soccer field I’ve ever seen.” Roberts had initially only seen the yellow card, in the opinion of the video images the punishment was corrected to red.
