Horror fall overshadows EM race in Munich

A moment of shock at the European Track Cycling Championships in Munich: the women’s elimination race was overshadowed by a serious fall on Saturday evening. Several riders fell, including world champion Letizia Paternoster. Paramedics supported the Italian woman’s neck with a neck brace.

Paternoster was conscious after the fall, was treated for several minutes behind a screen and then transported off the wooden track on a stretcher. The German starter Lea Lin Teutenberg was spared the accident.
