A football nation in shock: Brazil’s football star Neymar tore a cruciate ligament in the World Cup qualifying game on Tuesday and needs surgery.
After examinations on Wednesday in Sao Paulo, the Brazilian CBF confirmed a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and the meniscus of the left knee.
Neymar, who has been under contract with Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia since the summer, twisted his knee in a challenge in the 2-0 defeat in Uruguay before half-time and was driven off the pitch in tears. He later left the stadium in Montevideo on crutches and a support cuff around his left leg.
