The shooting in Russia’s Ulyanovsk region has killed at least four people, including two children and a teacher. The perpetrator committed suicide after the shooting, local authorities report. A nanny was injured in her arm.
The deceased children are five and six years old. According to a local Telegram channel, the gunman walked into the school during the afternoon nap and started shooting at the children. An attempt by a teacher to stop him failed. The children ducked under their beds out of fear, The Mail writes. Images show how parents pick up their crying children from school after the drama.
The cause of the shooting is still unknown. A ‘domestic conflict’ would have preceded it, the Russian news agency TASS reported. Akhtyamov had a hunting license.
Russia was rocked twice in 2021 by school shootings. Last May, nine people were killed when a 19-year-old man started shooting at his old school in Kazan, in September a student shot and killed six people at a university in the city of Perm.
