Qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is overshadowed by a serious crash involving the Haas driver. Mick Schumacher crashes into the barriers at high speed.
Mick Schumacher suffered a serious accident in qualifying for Saudi Arabia’s Formula 1. The 23-year-old crashed sideways into the track barrier at high speed on Saturday in the Haas on the ultra-fast street circuit in Jeddah.
The car belonging to the son of record world champion Michael Schumacher was thrown across the track and then came to a standstill, badly damaged. The qualification was immediately suspended. According to Sky expert Ralf Schumacher, the pilot could have crashed at over 200 kilometers per hour. The car was completely destroyed in the accident, parts of the Haas were scattered around the track.
The TV pictures showed an ambulance at the scene of the accident. A short time later, the first all-clear: “We heard that Mick is conscious and is being taken to the medical center,” wrote the Haas team on Twitter.
In the meantime, Sky, citing the Haas team, has reported that Schumacher has already called mother Corinna, so he is doing well given the circumstances. He had no visible external injuries and was taken to the hospital by helicopter. On TV pictures, Schumacher could be seen sitting on a stretcher during transport. The driver had a positive effect, gesticulated and talked.
