Entrepreneurs around the catering square on the Markt in Assen complain about a pungent well smell and would love to take action from the municipality. At times it smells so bad that guests look for another place on the terrace, or worse, they leave.
Catering entrepreneur Geert te Velde of Autentieq states that the air on the terraces around the Market is ‘unbearable’ at times. “I will then contact the municipality, but it seems to be a one-way street.” Manos Tsantirakis of restaurant Bodega Manolitos became sick yesterday from the pungent smell that rose from the sewer pit outside. “I was working inside the store, I even smelled it there, it was terrible.”
Te Velde, and other entrepreneurs, would like the municipality to come and rinse things thoroughly, because in their eyes it is a public area after all. Now the catering boss himself regularly rolls out the fire hose to flush the trade. Especially from the water gutters that run over his terrace, a well smell rises from time to time. “It may be that it is now due to the prolonged drought. But it has now rained a few times, you should expect it to be gone. But that is not the case.”
