Hoorn’s city beach will have a food truck and a beach pavilion

A food truck and a beach pavilion will be built on the city beach, which is still under construction. Run by entrepreneurs Mansur Mihanpour and Elle Mol from Hoorn. “Watch the sunset on the beautiful Markermeer with a glass of rosé.”

Elle Mol, owner of Sportcafé Zwaag and café de Harmonie, can already envision his beach pavilion. “We are still debating the name. We have hired an advertising agency to help us with that. The ink under the contract is also still wet, so we now have time to focus on that.”

Mansur Mihanpour has a mobile point of sale at De Korenbloem shopping center in Zwaag and can start his food truck from the summer, which can remain open all year round. You have to wait longer at the beach pavilion. “Everything must be in place by April 2024. So we have another year, but a year will also be over in no time,” says Mol.

The catering entrepreneur wants to be open all year round. For lunch and dinner, but also for parties or meetings. And if you look further down the beach, you can see that it is starting to take shape.

Work is now underway on the parking spaces, but also on the sports fields that are to be built. The lookout hump is already there, as are several breakwaters to prevent the sand from being swept away.

The special thing about the project is that the one kilometer long stretch of beach is actually primarily intended for dyke reinforcement, but that it can therefore also be used for recreation. “The first part up to the lookout hump must be ready in July. The other half of the beach will follow in mid-2024.”
